PHRA Committees

Seminar

Getting an education and learning on the job are great ways to establish and develop your skills.  But did you know that you have another resource available through PHRA to help you continue to learn and grow?  In addition to our monthly luncheons, PHRA holds an annual full day seminar.  Under the direction of the Executive Board, the Seminar Committee selects topics, speakers, location, and the theme for the annual seminar.  If you enjoy working with a small group and planning events, this committee is for you.

Legislative

The Legislative Committee anticipates and addresses regulations and legislation that could change the way human resource professionals perform their jobs.  The committee disseminates information on federal, state and local legislative activity by writing articles for the newsletter and reporting information at the monthly meetings.  The committee strives to positively influence national legislation through PHRA support on SHRM legislative positions.  Make your voice heard about important policy issues by signing up for the Legislative Committee today.

SHRM Foundation

The SHRM Foundation was founded in 1966 as a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the HR profession, including academics, practitioners and representatives from SHRM. The Foundation funds research, publications and education to advance the HR profession and enhance the effectiveness of HR professionals. The Foundation Committee conducts an annual fundraiser to increase awareness of the Foundation and to provide support from the local chapter. All contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible.

Newsletter

PHRA publishes a monthly electronic newsletter that is posted on the website.  The Newsletter Committee is responsible for gathering the information on speakers, legislation, and other relevant topics.  Individuals should enjoy working with software applications to create a visually appealing product.  In addition, editing, creativity, and organizational skills are important aspects of the committee.

Diversity

The Diversity Committee provides technical expertise and program leadership on issues that impact workplace diversity, equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and other related topics.  The committee promotes diversity by providing activities to the membership that develop diversity initiatives.  Successful implementation of diversity initiatives is a challenge that we in HR face daily.  Help PHRA monitor and evaluate local and national diversity-related activities as well as publicize successful diversity initiatives.

Communications/Membership

HR professionals, practitioners and students have a wealth of information and resources at their fingertips through PHRA, but many may not be aware of the benefits membership offers.  We need your help reaching them and getting the word out about our many benefits, programs, and activities.  The Membership Committee is responsible for contacting potential members and retaining current members by making personal contact via phone, letter, or e-mail communication.

Nominating

Assist PHRA in continuing our tradition of strong leadership by participating on the Nominating Committee.  The committee will look at the needs of the organization and fill available board/committee slots with qualified candidates before the September meeting each year.
